Jackie Ferry Chelángen Department Director and Tribal Historic Preservation Officer, Samish Indian Nation Éy7 skewchíl! My name is Jackie Ferry and I’m the Chelángen Department Director and Tribal Historic Preservation Officer for the Samish Indian Nation. I received my bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University in Bellingham and my master’s degree from the University of Sheffield in England. I had a couple temporary jobs in Washington—with the Lummi Nation and out at Tse-whit-zen in Port Angeles—but my first permanent job was with Equinox Research and Consulting (ERCI) out of Skagit County. From 2007-2010, I worked for Ethnoscience, Inc. out of Billings, Montana and we did work throughout the Great Plains. In 2010, I started at the Samish Indian Nation as the Cultural Resources Program Manager. In 2014, we applied to be a THPO office and then the next year, the Chelángen Dept was created and I became director. I’ve held these two roles since then. |
