Purpose: To facilitate and promote research in the field of Archaeology, AWA archaeologists and other professionals are invited to apply for this grant to help with research that directly enhances or contributes to archaeological knowledge in Washington State.
Eligibility: This grant is available to any professional archaeologist and professionals working in related fields that are engaged in research relevant to the archaeology of Washington. Applicants must be current members of AWA in good standing. Upon completion of the funded research, the award recipient must submit a description of their finished work to the AWA Newsletter, describing the methods and results of the funded project.

Amount: The maximum award for this grant is $500. Accepted expenses include laboratory analysis, curation expenses, or other justified costs.
Deadline: Annual application deadline is March 1st. One Professional Research Grant will be awarded per year. The AWA Board will review applications and make awards based on merit. If an acceptable application is not submitted during a given year, then money can be added to the following year’s grant. Award decisions are made at the discretion of the Board. Grant recipients will be notified of their award ahead of the Annual General Meeting at the NWAC conference and will be paid by check just prior to the conference.

- Project Description: A (two pages, maximum) narrative of your proposed research project, including goals and objectives, relation to previous research, any community involvement, and relevance to archaeology in Washington State. The narrative should also specifically address how the funds will be used, and any additional funding sources that may be received.
